When to Use A Safety House
A Safety House can be identified by a yellow sign with a smiling house on it, like this:
The sign will usually be attached to the front of the letterbox, but sometimes it might be on side of the letterbox or on the garage or a downpipe on the front of the house.
You can seek refuge in a safety house if you:
feel scared or you are being harmed by someone;
are approached by a person who makes you feel unsafe;
are being bullied by others;
are injured or lost;
feel frightened by an animal or pet.
You should use a safety house if you are feeling frightened, unsafe or unsure.
Always remember
When using a safety house you should:
knock on the front door;
tell the Safety Householder what has happened.
The role of a Safety Householder is to provide comfort and assistance as well as contacting parents, police or ambulance if required. The Safety Householder is not obliged to let the person into their home. All that is required is that the appropriate phone calls are made.
